“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.”

The Apostle Paul, The Letter to the Colossians

Music in Worship

Music is a vital component of worshipping God. Throughout scripture, especially the Psalms, we see the call to sing unto the Lord. In the new testament, Paul commands us to “let the word of Christ dwell in [us] richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in [our] hearts to God.” (Col. 3:16). Here, Paul highlights the integral connection between singing and the Word. Our singing is to flow from and support the preaching and reading of God’s Word.

At Carriage Lane, congregational singing is the heart of our musical worship. We are committed to a balanced blend of musical styles in worship in order to engage the hearts of God’s people and to fulfill the biblical model to “sing a new song” and sing psalms, hymns, and songs from the Church’s musical heritage. Our worship team, choir, and seasonal ensembles seek to enrich and support our worship of God through the singing of his people.

Songs for Sunday Playlist

The Songs for Sunday Playlist is an opportunity for you and your household to be singing throughout the week in preparation for corporate worship and congregational singing. This is another way to “let the Word of Christ dwell in you” throughout the week. We hope that having the song list available throughout the week will help you ponder the words that we sing and to usher our hearts into praise.

If you have children, we have found this to be especially helpful to learn the songs of the Church, so that they are familiar with the tune and the words and can sing with the congregation (even if they can’t read the printed words).
